Wellness and Behavior Change: How Small Steps Can Lead to a Whole New Life
Share
Introduction:
When we think about improving our wellness, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We picture huge lifestyle changes, rigid diets, or hitting the gym seven days a week. The truth is, lasting change doesn’t happen overnight—it starts with awareness and small, sustainable steps.
At Adventure into Wellness, I’ve learned (personally and professionally) that understanding what’s holding us back and gently moving forward is how real transformation happens. And I’d like to share a bit of my own journey to show you how.
Where I Was 10 Years Ago
Ten years ago, I was stuck in a cycle many people can relate to—working too hard, exercising too little, eating and drinking too much. My well-being was slipping, but I was caught up in daily pressures and didn’t know how to break free.
It was a small but powerful moment that nudged me forward: my kids teasing me about my growing waistline. Their comments stung, but deep down, I knew they were right. Something needed to change.
The First Step: Just 30 Minutes
That’s when I made a simple but life-altering decision:
I committed to finding a gym program that I could actually stick with. My first goal? Just 30 minutes a day. That was it.
Those short workouts gave me small but significant wins. I started to feel stronger and more energized, which naturally led to making healthier food choices. Over time, these small shifts built my confidence and laid the foundation for bigger changes ahead.
From Fitness to Adventure
As I built momentum, something else happened—I felt ready to step outside of the gym and into the outdoors. At the age of 49, my journey of wellness had officially started, but it wasn’t until I turned 52 that I found the confidence to take on a new passion: climbing and mountaineering.
That step changed everything. Through climbing, I discovered not just physical strength, but a renewed sense of purpose, connection, and adventure.
Now, at 59, my life is full and active, filled with mountain trails, fresh air, and a deep love for exploration. But it all started with one small commitment—a 30-minute workout and a willingness to try.
What’s Holding You Back?
If you’re feeling stuck or unsure where to begin, you’re not alone. Many of us struggle with:
- Long-standing habits
- Fear of failure or discomfort
- A mindset that says “maybe later”
- Or simply not knowing where to start
But change starts with understanding what’s blocking you and making a single, manageable commitment to yourself.
Adventure into Wellness Can Help
At Adventure into Wellness, I help people just like you take that first step. Whether it’s through personalized coaching, group challenges, or outdoor adventures, I can help you:
- Clarify your wellness goals
- Identify what’s holding you back
- Build confidence
- And make small, sustainable changes that lead to a life you love
What Commitment Could You Make Today?
It might be as simple as a 10-minute walk, swapping one unhealthy snack for something nourishing, or reaching out for support.
Remember: my entire journey began with one comment and a 30-minute-a-day promise to myself.
So, what’s your first small step?
